Does Wig Size Really Matter?
As an owner of a Montreal-based Wig Boutique, Fancy Nancy’s Wig Boutique, I have had the opportunity to assist a diverse group of women to both choose and fit themselves in a variety of new wig styles.
Although I absolutely endorse measuring each woman’s head circumference their head size does and doesn’t always matter!
To explain, most Wig Companies offer a few of their more popular wig styles in a couple of size options including Petite, Average & Large
That said, the majority of wig styles are offered in Average size only.
So if you have a Petite head circumference, are you relegated to wearing only a few wig styles that are offered in Petite? The answer is a resounding “absolutely not”!
There are many tools available today that can help with fit and security. (We all picture the
horror of losing our wig to a strong gust of wind) My absolute favourite tool for fit and comfort is the WiGrip. It is a velvet band that circles the head and attaches with Velcro. When worn properly it will hold your wig in place both securely & comfortably.
So even I – who has a very small head (but a large mouth apparently) can wear an average size wig with the assistance of a great Milano Collection GripCap. The great news is that we at Fancy Nancy’s Wig Boutique now have the Milano Collection GripCaps and WiGrip bands available for you in Montreal!

The greater fit problem may be faced by a woman whose head circumference is 23+ which is the upper range. Again, many companies offer some of their most popular wig styles in size Large but, unlike the Petite woman, there is no tool to make a larger head fit into a smaller wig cap.
This is where the professional wig consultant comes in.
Because I am familiar with the fit of specific wig lines, I can advise my clients on which wig caps will fit a larger head circumference even when a particular style is not available in Large. For example, the Tress Allure wig cap fits a larger head circumference quite comfortably whereas, Noriko’s cap is suited for a petite to average head size only.
In addition, various styles within a line can be made larger or smaller which just happens in the design.
Hope all this demystifies the Wig Size question a bit.
