How do you know what to choose for your first wig?
Although there is so much to consider when purchasing a first wig, there are a few good points to follow. Primarily, for many who have been experiencing hair loss, it is advisable to choose a piece that is moderate in density as a wig will feel like a lot of hair. Also choosing something in a similar colour & style to your bio hairstyle will make the transition easier. Experimenting with less expensive options at the beginning is also a good way to start.
I am worried that people will be able to tell that I’m wearing a wig. How do you get over that?
This is a very normal reaction for new wig wearers. The first few times out may feel strange & a little intimidating. What are people thinking? Soon after though, the positive reaction of others on your beautiful hair style & colour will help to dispel those early fears.
Why choose a synthetic wig over an actual human hair piece?
There are many things to consider when deciding to purchase a wig. For many, cost is a consideration. The cost of a synthetic wig can begin as low as $200, while a human hairpiece starts at around $2000.00.
As well, the styling on a synthetic piece endures bad weather, washing, etc. whereas a human hair wig needs to be restyled on a regular basis.
Lastly, current synthetic wigs are so true to life & affordable that you can change your hair style to suit your outfit which gives you so many more options.
How long does a synthetic wig last?
The short answer is from 6 months to several years. A first consideration is whether the piece is heat defiant. These are wigs that are stylable using heat as they tend to need some maintenance if worn frequently. That said, with all the amazing products on the market for synthetics, most wigs can last for years.
I am in my first year of wig wearing & I have already purchased 7 wigs. Does this ‘wig addiction’ ever go away?
The answer is a definite one: Yes & No!
The excitement of having gorgeous hair is wildly addictive, especially at the beginning of the wig journey. So, experimentation does continue to be fun for a while.
Over time though, we do become more discerning which is when cap features & comfort become more important in a few styles that become your favourites.
